Colombia updates

Hello Everyone! I'm the email girl for our upcoming trip to Colombia and I thought I would post the emails with our team updates and prayer requests on my blog so you can pray even if you're not getting my emails.

First, personal praises:
  • My trip is almost entirely funded! I think I'm only about four hundred dollars away (plus spending money - have to support the local economy right?) from being fully funded! Yippie! All of the funds for my plane ticket came in before the credit card deadline and I was most worried about that. What with the reorganization at our firm, I should also receive a nice little bonus check for the last two quarters of 2008 that will easily pay for the rest of my trip.
  • After fussing over money at my lunch break on Monday I had a heart to heart with God. (These usually involve me confessing doubt, asking for forgiveness, thanking him for his provision and asking him to continue to provide for our daily needs.) When I purchased my Campbell's soup a few minutes later (10 for $10!!) the coupon machine at Fred Meyer barfed out like 5 coupons with buy one get one free and $1.50 off deals of stuff that we buy all the time. Today, the eyedrop manufacturer's website popped up a window that allowed me to print a $3.00 off coupon for the eye drops that I need to buy for my trip. When I went back later to print coupons for the rest of the team, the window was gone, but after purchasing the drops I found another $3.00 off coupon INSIDE the box! I also found out that I can take back a pair of pants that I bought for the trip (thus saving $29.50) and a friend has some long sleeve, UV blocking shirts AND convertible cargo pants that she's letting me borrow! I must say, God certainly is creative. Who needs a pile of money when you can get tiny little surprises and bits of good news throughout the week? I like it.
  • Everyone get ready...Matt will be posting at least once while I'm gone. For those that missed it, you can catch his smash hit debut post here. Seriously. Smash. Hit.
So now, for the "email update" part:

Our team met again this weekend to plan more trip details. Here are the team roles and prayer requests that go along with them:

1. Donna will be teaching the bible story lessons. Please pray for guidance and creativity for her and open eyes, ears and imaginations for all of the children!
2. Kay will be teaching crafts. Pray that she can find crafts that tie into the lessons and that we will obtain the necessary supplies to complete the crafts.
3. Jackie will be leading game time. Pray that I can think of some games that don't require a lot of verbal direction and supplies, are fun and tie into the lessons.
4. Jerry will be leading our devotionals. Pray that the spirit will guide him to teach us what He needs us to learn while we are there.
5. Dale (and Donna) will be in charge of administration and finances. Pray for guidance as they decide how to transport/access funds while we are overseas.
6. George will be providing medical expertise. Pray for him as he ministers to the children and their parents in this MUCH needed area.

As a reminder, our stories are:
  • Elisha helps a poor widow (2 Kings 4:1-7)
  • Jesus and the Children (Mark 10:13-16)
  • Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)
  • Feeding the 5,000 (John 6:1-14)

Continue to pray for good health prior to leaving and while we are away.
Continue to pray that funds will continue to flow in as departure day approaches.
Continue to pray that God would prepare our hearts to do his work in foreign land.
Continue to pray that God would prepare the hearts of those we are ministering to. We will not speak the language and will not be asking individuals to make professions of faith while we are there. That will be done by the missionaries and local workers while we are there and after we leave.
Pray that God would fill us with His love so that we can love each other and the people there.
Pray that God would accomplish what ever he needs to in us in order to make the biggest impact for Him!

Thanks for praying everyone! If you have ideas about games I accept divine inspiration in the form of outside consultation...
