They're Finally Here!!

Yay Pictures! I swallowed my pride and gave up on de-cluttering my house so that I might be able to take pictures of us moved in. Let the tour begin....

To the right, we have the view of our living "room" from the front door. The mess is from my craft-stravaganza weekend - I promise it's not always like that. The pictures on the wall were all taken by Matt. The coffee table under the window is usually between the couch and the TV but it's pretty tight. (For craft-stravaganza results please see the previous post)

Below and to your left, you will see the view of our living room from our kitchen. You get a pretty good idea of how high our ceilings are (about 9.5 feet). It really makes the place look bigger.

To your left, you can see our new ceiling fan. Trust me, it's waaaay better than the one that was there. AND it spins so fast it feels like the house is taking off!

Here is our new dining table which expands to seat six. The shorter little "doorway" is...well...we're not really sure why it's there. We think it was an original door from when the house was built (in 1910). One of our neighbor's grandparents built the home so we'll have to head over someday and ask about it.

For those of you that didn't know, our front door did not lock for the first couple of months that we were here. The deadbolt worked but the lock on the door handle did not. Plus the door was this really heavy green steel door. And on the outside it said, "Keep the phone f*****" (insert homophobic statement). Naturally it was imperative that we replace the door as soon as possible.

And we installed a lever style door handle for those days when I come home with my hands full. If the door is already unlocked (which it usually is if Matt is home) I can use my elbow or other appendage to open it.

If you haven't seen the pictures of me tearing up flooring, we had really gross ceramic tile in the front entry way. It smelled like dog pee and was filthy. So we put in laminate flooring and it turned out really well (Thanks Jim!). The rug is really dirty because it's been so rainy lately.

Below and to your left, is our small bedroom. It's probably the size of a normal person's hallway but it works for what we need it for. What you can't see in this picture are the bookshelves holding Matt's seminary books, computer stuff, and my pictures and books.

Now we come to our bedroom, which is barely big enough to fit our bed and my dresser. Matt's dresser is in the closet along with our other clothes. What you can't see in either of the bedroom pictures is that we have a lot of storage above the closets where this is a small loft-type space. If we had teenage kids, they could probably sleep up there.

Ahh, the bathroom. There's another story that I have commissioned Matt to write so I'll just tell you that the bathroom is bigger than you would expect and I've included a picture of my shower curtain and the ceiling to show how high our ceilings are. We are going to put new baseboards in and crown molding at some point. We had nasty elementary classroom rubber baseboard molding and ripped it out when we painted.

So that's our house. I purposely left out the kitchen because it is a mess. Plus it's still a work in progress - more so than the rest of the house. The Thomas Kinkade border is gone, so is the green and white asbestos tile. To see before pictures of the day we got our keys, you can go to Jackie's flickr page. To see work in progress pictures go to Matt's House Album on Flickr. Matt's album also shows some pictures of our kitchen after it was painted.
