Ambitious

Wow, I don't have the time nor the inclination to head up something like a Produce Co-Op but I think it's pretty cool what this lady and her friends have done in order to make sure plenty of fruits and vegetables end up in their diet.

How to Start Your Own Produce Co-Op

My parents and a few of my friends in the Seattle area also use a produce home delivery service which is also a great option for those who want to eat local or oganic and avoid a trip to the store. Here in Oregon prices for organic home delivery run from $27/bin (single) to $60/bin (large families).

Of course you can also start your own garden in your back yard. If you guys are seeing anything like what we see my neighborhood there have probably been three or four new back yard vegetable gardens popping up over the last few months.

One of my favorite memories of when I was a child was going to my grandparents home in Woodinville and digging potatoes, picking snap peas, strawberries and pulling carrots out of their vegetable garden. Grandpa and Grandma also had about four or five apple trees that the grandkids loved to climb. I don't remember ever actually picking an apple off the tree and eating it but I know that the apples were eventually eaten by someone or something. Next year's goal will be to start a backyard garden of some kind at our house. The trick will be to keep the skunks, racoons and cats out of it. I don't think the peacock will be a problem...

2012 Goal: Figure out a way to make money on our "neighborhood zoo."

We picked peaches off a tree in our back yard that we planted last year!! It was great. They taste like summer.
And I'm proud of you for couponing! I would call $10 savings a huge success. I use what coupons I can, but don't drive around town to get bargains. 'Course we only have 3 groc. stores. And none of them is a Target.
I'm not bitter.
