That's Silly!

Lately, I've been trying to be cautious about not teaching Mini Mange that certain things are scary.  I mean, I don't want him to inherit my fear of spiders because then who will kill the spiders when Matt's at work?  But I also don't want him playing with knives or wading into the Willamette River so I think it's important to find a balance between total freak-out and encouraging natural curiosity.

For instance, tonight in the bath, MM was looking into the water at his rubber tub mat:

Mini Mange: "Shark!"
Jackie: "Hmmm?" (I totally wasn't paying attention to what he was doing.  Just keepin' it real around here.)
MM: "Shark! Sharks eat food!"
J: "Yes, they do. Do you know what kind of food sharks eat?"
MM: "Eat." When he doesn't know the answer to a question or isn't paying attention to what you're asking him he just repeats the last word that you said. It's equal parts hilarious and frustrating. Pretty much like the rest of parenting.
J: "Sharks eat fish."
MM: "Yeah, eat fish."
J: "Sometimes they eat people," oh crap. Now he's going to be afraid of sharks, or the bath. Mom.Of.The.Year.
MM: "That's silly!"
J: "Um, yes. Yes it is..."  Phew, crisis averted!
